A Fixed Surface Potential Probe with the Swing Capacitive Electrometer Compared to the Vibrating Kelvin Probe
نویسنده
چکیده
The novel fixed (non-vibrating) Volta potential probe was evaluated in comparison with the standard, vibrating (400 Hz) commercial Kelvin probe. While both tested probes demonstrated the similar behavior, there were significant practical advantages of the novel probe. Specifically, the novel probe allows for the elevated distance to the surface and provides more sensitivity to charge under the coating layer. These differences are explained by the analysis of probe circuitry together with the electrostatic approach to the dynamics of the Volta potential measurement.

Applying the Kelvin probe to biological tissues: theoretical and computational analyses.
The Kelvin probe measures surface electrical potential without making physical contact with the specimen. It relies on capacitive coupling between an oscillating metal tip that is normal to a specimen's surface. Kelvin probes have been increasingly used to study surface and electrical properties of metals and semiconductors and are capable of detecting material surface potentials with submilliv...

In this article we investigate the effect of relative humidity on dielectric charging/discharging processes in electrostatically actuated MEMS devices. The assessment procedure is based on surface potential measurements using Kelvin Probe Force Microscopy (KPFM) and it targets in this specific work PECVD silicon nitride films in view of application in electrostatic capacitive RF MEMS switches. ...

Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM) is a powerful characterization technique for imaging local electrochemical and electrostatic potential distributions and has been applied across a broad range of materials and devices. Proper interpretation of the local KPFM data can be complicated, however, by convolution of the true surface potential under the tip with additional contributions due to long ...
متن کاملP01.54. Electrical potential of acupuncture points: use of a Scanning Kelvin Probe
Purpose According to conventional wisdom within the acupuncture community, acupuncture points are distinguishable by their electrical properties. However, confounders arising from skin-to-electrode contact (such as electrode pressure and skin moisture) have contributed to controversies over this claim. Because the Scanning Kelvin Probe relies on capacitive coupling and thus measures electrical ...
متن کاملKelvin probe force microscopy for local characterisation of active nanoelectronic devices
Frequency modulated Kelvin probe force microscopy (FM-KFM) is the method of choice for high resolution measurements of local surface potentials, yet on coarse topographic structures most researchers revert to amplitude modulated lift-mode techniques for better stability. This approach inevitably translates into lower lateral resolution and pronounced capacitive averaging of the locally measured...
